Flexible Packaging Market Overview 2026
The value of the worldwide flexible packaging market in 2026 is forecast to be USD 273.6 billion, increasing from around USD 253.78 billion in 2025. The flexible packaging market is predicted to hit USD 437.9 billion by 2034 at a CAGR of 5.56% (2026–2034). Asia-Pacific will take the lead in terms of geography. Food & Beverages will be the probable leading end use segment.
Any package whose structure can be altered during fill, storage, or use is called a flexible package. The common types of packages include bags, standup pouches, films, sachets, wraps and lidding. Its popularity continues to increase as it provides an opportunity for a brand to provide a package that is lightweight, shelf stable, and has low packaging and shipping costs compared to rigid packages. Urban population growth and online shopping have been noted by many publishers as some of the growth drivers due to the pack's compact nature.
The Asia-Pacific region is expected to lead the market. There have been market releases stating that Asia-Pacific leads the market for flexible packaging. The major drivers of the region include its large and rapidly urbanizing population, high consumption of packaged foods, growth of e-commerce and film converters' and manufacturers' presence in the region which includes countries such as India and China.
The major trend is towards recyclable and mono-material structures. Recyclable, downgauged, compostable, and mono-material are the main trends that are expected from the brands in order to meet customer demands and regulations. Multilayer laminate packaging is hard to be recycled, and therefore the pressure of regulations on this type of structure has resulted in changes in suppliers of big companies. The latest example is Amcor’s partnership with DCM for production of recycle-ready mono-PE fertilizer packaging in Europe that contains 35% post-consumer recycled material in March 2026. Another trend is high-speed digital printing.
Trends 2026
Mono-material and recyclable formats are becoming the default
This is the most persistent topic across the studies. The brands are switching to single polymer films, particularly mono-PE and mono-PP, for pack materials to be compatible with current recycling processes. For instance, companies like Amcor, Mondi and Sealed Air are making huge investments in the development of mono-PE films for pouches, lidding and overwrap. The transition is noticeable on the shelves – there are already recyclable mono-PP pouches for pet food and high barrier mono-material films for dairy. The only technical issue is equal shelf-life protection compared to multi-layer films.
Regulation is now shaping material choices
Packaging law will be another design input along with costs and branding in 2026. According to one expert, EU’s PPWR and global EPR programs are the greatest regulatory shift in the packaging industry in at least the last generation. In accordance with PPWR legislation, design for recycling criteria will become obligatory by 2028, while recyclability grading will be applied since 2030. Moreover, according to the PPWR, certain PFAS substances in food contact packaging will be banned from August 2026.

Flexible Packaging Market Company news 2026
Amcor (including Berry Global)
Amcor is the largest company in the sector, and 2026 is its first full year of integrating Berry Global. Amcor completed the Berry merger on April 30, 2025, for purchase consideration of $10.4 billion, not including about $5.2 billion of Berry debt it assumed. That means Berry Global is no longer a standalone company. It is now part of Amcor, which corrects my earlier note about the two being listed separately. The company expects total pretax synergies of about $650 million by the end of fiscal 2028.
Sealed Air
This is the biggest ownership change of the year. Sealed Air completed its acquisition by funds affiliated with CD&R on April 9, 2026. The all-cash deal valued the company at $10.3 billion enterprise value, with stockholders receiving $42.15 per share. Its shares stopped trading on the NYSE, and it remains headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, under the Sealed Air name. CD&R is expected to back growth in the Food and Protective businesses, and Sealed Air recently launched Cryovac VPP MonoPro, a recycle-ready, high-barrier vertical form-fill-seal pack for fluid and pumpable foods.
